Personal Development

The Arrow Vale commitment to Personal Development

At Arrow Vale, we put the personal development of our students at the heart of everything that we do. We are committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of experiences and enrichment activities, that their curriculums are sequenced in a way which develops their knowledge and engagement with their spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness as well as engaging with fundamental British Values.

Our students are given an ambitious range of opportunities to enrich their personal development, which are not limited to, but include:

  • Our ‘Learning for Life’ curriculum.
  • ‘Arrow Vale Futures’ Careers Education, Advice, Information and Guidance programme
  • Duke of Edinburgh award
  • Extracurricular ‘Discover’ enrichment programme
  • Curriculum enrichment strategy
  • ‘Discover Plus’ bespoke programme
  • Diana Award Anti-Bullying Training
  • First Aid Experience Events
  • HPA programme
  • Sports Leadership programme
  • Student Leadership structure and our commitment to ‘Civic Duties’ (See Below)
  • Trips and visits abroad

Our Learning for Life (PSHE/RSHE) curriculum is deliberately designed to align with our trust's mission of ‘social justice for all’ whilst ensuring that our students are able to understand and critically assess situations that they may face now, or in the future.

We recognise that our students are interested in issues which affect them. Social issues which our students may be exposed to include drugs, gangs, deprivation and many more.

We want our students to access accurate and reliable information which can be explored and discussed within a safe environment. We also want our students to have confidence, to build resilience, to take pride in themselves and their community and have high aspirations for themselves; always believing in achieving their full potential. With this in mind, our curriculum offer and enrichment programmes are developed with students’ personal development at the forefront. This means that all departments have committed to reviewing and addressing cultural bias and opportunities to express diversity throughout learning sequences.

All of our departments plan learning sequences, supported by the Trust’s co-design strategy, to explore opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness, understanding that this plays a key role in developing students’ cultural capital.
