CPD

“Every teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better.”  (Dylan Wiliam)

At Arrow Vale, we ensure our CPD offer is responsive to staff need, informed by the most secure evidence available, and sequenced so that it builds teacher understanding and habits. The impact is that our CPD ensures teachers keep getting better, regardless of career stage, and enhances student progress in the classroom.

Our CPD programme is composed of three strands:

  • General pedagogy strand: develop our five basics is shared through our cycle approach. This involves an initial input, followed by departments contextualising the strategies, before staff trial them in their teaching and reflect on the impact with the support of colleagues.
  • Subjectspecific strand: regular department time is calendared to ensure staff can develop their subject knowledge and gain a greater awareness of subject-specific pedagogy.
  • Our statutory strand includes regular safeguarding training, SEND updates, PSHE guidance, and student support updates through INSET days, daily briefings and Tuesday after school sessions.

Staff are also supported to access high-quality external opportunities that support them in their job role whenever possible, reflect upon them, and enact any necessary changes to develop their practice.

CPD opportunities through CRST:

“People matter; at the central region schools trust, we believe that effective professional learning, research & development must be at the heart of our school communities. Collaboration across our trust to improve learning experiences and educational outcomes for all pupils in our care is key to our mission of social justice.”
